Porsche Transmission Service: Keeping Your Ride Smooth

Your Porsche transmission is the product of countless hours of design and engineering and is manufactured from the highest quality materials.

Unfortunately, even Porsche transmission components will age or become damaged, causing transmission issues and potential failure if not repaired. As your Porsche Center, we’d like you to know a few signs you need to visit us for a transmission service.

Signs You Need a Transmission Service at Your Porsche Center

Gears Won’t Shift

When you or the transmission computer shift gears, your Porsche transmission smoothly changes to the gear in seconds and does so without making a sound. If your transmission refuses to shift and feels almost frozen in place, this is a sign something is wrong. This fault could be caused by a transmission computer error, broken linkages, or another mechanical issue.

Fortunately, the most common cause is low or dirty transmission fluid. Transmission fluid provides the hydraulic power that allows the gears to engage. If you leak, the lack of fluid can prevent the transmission from working. Old, dirty transmission fluid can clog the transmission filter, preventing fluid from the gears from moving. We’ll find the cause of the problem and repair it.

Transmission Fluid Leak

As we saw above, transmission fluid provides the power necessary to move the gears. It also provides benefits to the transmission, like cooling the hot components so they work more efficiently and preventing the transmission from overheating. The fluid also protects numerous components from friction damage by surrounding them in a friction-resistant coating.

A leak is usually easy to spot as it will be a puddle of bright or dark red liquid underneath your Porsche. If you spot this fluid, contact us ASAP, and don’t attempt to drive your vehicle. If you drive with insufficient transmission fluid, the transmission can overheat and seize. If this happens, you may need a new transmission. Our technicians will find and seal the leak, then refill the fluid so your transmission will work correctly again.

Check Engine Light

The transmission is one of the few systems that doesn’t have a warning light. This is because the engine and transmission work so closely together to move your vehicle that any problem affecting the transmission will also affect the engine. If the transmission struggles to shift gears, the decrease in power causes the engine to work harder to try and compensate.

As the engine works to overcome the resistance from a damaged transmission, it suffers increased strain. These issues are detected by engine sensors that immediately warn your computer, and the check engine light illuminates. We’ll connect your Porsche computer to our computerized scanner. This scanner will identify the error codes, and we’ll use this information to repair the problem.
